Just found out that this has been bought for me by good lady....
Knees like jelly, butterflies in stomach already. Is it always like this on trackdays? I can't believe how nervous I am....
Anyone from here doing it also? Look out for the blue and white K3 mobile chicane....and a jibbering wreck onboard. |

Not doing that one mate but like most things in life the waiting and build up is the worst bit, once you start nerves are forgotten - just remember it's not a race and go at your own pace.
Good link from the trackday section here worth reading [link]
best of luck - you'll love it |

But I still try my best....
First session was good, dry. Second session was wet - still went out and had a great time despite throwing it down and on supercorsa's and only a handfull on track. Next session was cancelled due to washing Edwinas' down due to someone crashing in earlier group session. Lunch was called early at 12:30 due to another crash, out at 13:00 again. Fast Bikes doing a 1000cc group test, thought they were 600's at first and was struggling to keep up with the bloody things, until after I saw they were the big toys - no wonder they were hard work. Next session, toying with them again, whoever was on the ZX10 let me past at Lakes Esses, I was slowly catching the next one when onto Edwina's fine, out in first gear - control the wheelie and slide as track still a little damp so feeling for rear end grip a little more on this exit, 80mph find 2nd gear, 110mph (redline in 2nd to ensure good drive in next gear) hook third before / as you peel in the right of Lakes Esses', redline it in third through the right letting it hit the limiter just before you aim for the rough piece of tarmac on the apex of the right kink that always bottoms the suspension out but it never slides, hook 4th while upright / on limiter to avoid unsettling the bike during corners at 135ish as you flick from right to left and pin it up the hill to the haipin (revs and speed rise a bit going up the hill but mainly from increasing the radius of the tyre size as you roll the bike upright). Braking marker passed at about 140ish mph and now stand bike on nose to flow round haipin at about 20mph. That was the plan, but when I grabbed front brake nothing happened. Gulp. Grabbed again but nothing there - lever came back to bar. Balls. Back brake, down gears and do as much braking as I can on the track before exiting stage left at about 120mph. Not much run off and lok up to see solid wall. Balls again, this is going to hurt....lay bike down and smack into wall thinking this is game over for the bike and it's gonna hurt for me....big surprise when I bounce off, bike stays on it's nose and I'm ok from travelling at about a ton to zero in 6 inches. Get up, pick up bits of screen and fuses (eh, how did they fall out!), help lower bike down, climb in ambulance and get checked over in medical centre. Amazingly, bike doesn't look bent considering the impact it's had. The adrenaline kicks in and what a rush...still can remeber crapping myself while heading for the wall thinking it was solid. Marshall says it's a common thing and a lot of people crash due to it. New bolt today now lockwired in and cable tied for good measure. Not a mark on me, but do feel a bit delicate in places.
When's the next one?

Exiting the track up the grass bank from the hairpin - not a lot of run off at about 110mph...
And this is how the bike ended up - it just stayed in that position...!!!
Fairing, crash bung bent, gear lever bent, harris fairing brace mangled, air scoops cracked, mudguard knackered. That's it. Amazing considering the impact it's had. |
Jeez mate, at least you are ok. Looking at the snetterton thread really makes you think about things. |
