Time for a new project me thinks so here goes.

The Bike: 1991 GSXR1100M

The Goal: to build a competative bike for a 10.30 drag class.

I bought the bike about 3 weeks ago after selling my drum kit for £1500 and buying the Gixer 15 minutes later. I bought it from Mark at Green Hill Racing near were i live with the bike belonging to his mate Jamie Sneddon, who is a very competative ACU drag contender on his turbo blackbird. The bike was bought as a project to turbo it, but they got as far as fitting a Dyna 2000 Ignition and that was it.

Now i know a good GSXR1100 with pipe and jet kit will hit low 11's or high 10's, i need a 10.30 bike.

The bike so far has a full Termignoni Exhaust system, Dynojet stage 3 with K&N's and a Dyna 2000 Ignition, so it has plenty of grunt for a start. Ive just bought a new swingarm which not only looks the bollox but also will extend the wheelbase by 6 inchs.

So parts ive ordered or need are:

New swingarm, JMC underbraced with 150mm adjusters (pic below)
longer chain
new sprockets
new spark plugs
new oil and filter
New rear shock

I will also be doing some dyno time to set up the ignition and the jet settings and get her running spot on, Also if i have time, i will be polishing the frame, yokes, rearsets and forks.

So wish me luck and ill keep you updated

Well been going well on the bike, fitted the new NGK Iridium Plugs and shes running like a dream, when i took the old plugs out they were arranged in the following order: Standard, Iridium, Iridium, Standard Confused no wonder it was running on 2 cylinders, but shes running on all 4's now so im pleased.

Fitted the new Seat hump, looks very good indeed Wink and Renthal Medium Compound Grips

I also did a favour for my mate and fixed his gearbox in his RF so while i was doing that he polished up the rearsets 4 me (cuz i was too lazy to do it Laughing )

anyways, some pics, shes comming along Wink

Been a productive day 2day, doesnt look like ive done much, but polishing is a very hard and long process. So ive polished the clock surround and clipons, altho i was also going to do the top yoke (lets face it, it lets it down) but i couldnt get the bloody thing off and i wasnt going to waste time trying.

7 hours later (yes, its a long process) and the job was done.

a few pics

Looking pretty good that, where and when will you be dragging it? or does that depend on how long it takes to get ready?

Hi
I've run low tens (10.1) on a later watercooled 1100WP at pod so 10.3 should not be difficult on your bike with only a little work.
Stock motor
Akrapovic full system
Dynojet
Dyna coils
JMC 6" over swingarm
140 bhp at the back wheel

sounds about the same setup ive got, will see what happens when the new swingarm gets here. The lowest ive run is an 11.5 on my RF600R and 12.00 on my old mans slabby 1100, so am eager to see just how much is needed for a competitive bike.

The swingarm was worth at least 0.5 second to me. I also lowered the front by dropping the yokes down the forks as far as possible.

Well as you can see guys ive changed te name of the project to Project 9.30. Let me explain.

I went down to Marks unit yesterday and he said he found something that he bought for the Gixxer when he bought it, but never fitted. Let me Introduce JE Pistons 1216cc High Comp Big Bore pistons Very Happy I was stunned, such gorgous looking bits of kit cant surely go into and engine can they Question Question Question So after a wee discussion, we came up with this plan.

I will be going Santa Pod on the 20th and 27th of Jan for a test run, When i get back, i shall be pulling the motor out and handing him it Very Happy Leaving me with time to get on with Polishing.

He is going to Bore the cylinders, install the 1216 kit, Skim the head for even more compression, Gasflow the head, install slotted cam sprockets and dial in the cams aswell as lightening and balancing the crank and then bolting it all back together and giving it back.

With an estimated 160+bhp at the wheel Very Happy

O and if thats not enuf, the second stage we may use depending on finances is a 50bhp nitrous kit Wink so about 210+bhp at the wheel on full chat Very Happy

God i love old gixxers Laughing

say hello to the people boys Laughing

Well Santa Pod is looming over the next 2 weekends so im gettin excited, as soon as iom done the gixxer will be pulled apart for a complete rebuild.

Grabbed this lil bargain last nite of ebay, K6 1000 shock, 200 miles only, cost me £40 quid Very Happy bargain, all measurements add up so should fit fine and is ideal for what i need it for, as i dont see the point in forking out hundreds for an Ohlins etc, if im not going to get the full benefit of track use. So a new better unit can take pride of place in the back.

more info as it comes, stay tuned, also the project name may be getting changed to "project 9.30 blingmobile" Laughing Laughing Laughing Laughing Laughing
