 |
|
now i have seen a few threads on undertrays - and they kinda come up with the wise old man saying of messure, messure and messure some more before you cut - now i have always loved the look of a undertray but never really had the spare ponys to buy one, untill now..... I bagged myself one of fleabay for 95.00 -
Included in the auction is a road legal LED rear light (looks clear, shines red with seperate brake rear light with a numberplate light - MOT no probs) - Emarked.
And pair of carbon look micro spear indicators with irridium lenses included in deal
Also with alloy tail tidy fitting bracket for indicators and number plate --the professional job!
which is a fair amount on a modest wage two kids yarde yarde you catch my drift....
I got what i paid for in one sence - i got all the bits !! no instructions or fixing kit, I was on the blower within minutes, the guy on the phone tells me there easy to fit and you can see where you need to cut it, to phone him back when i come to fit it and he can advise over the phone ??
I just gave him him some hard earned money ?? now he wants me to phone him and spend more !!
So heres the question - should this job be left well alone ?? I am be honest to myself that i would no have a clue where to start or what the hell to cut or what type off fixtures to get, on the other hand i so want to have one !!!! |

not sure about the SRAD undertray but i just fitted one to my K1-600
take the whole underseat storage out it saves time in the end as i found out
match the undertray up to the subframe where u drill the undertray to attatch
should be some circled area's on the edge of the undertray that act as a guide to where to bolt
dont be scared of cutting out around the underseat store area just make sure you dont cut opening it up to the eliments
Sy aka Gixer6R1998 posted some pics of the srad undertray fitting on another thread |

I fitted one to my SRAD, but it included the battery tray as well so was straightforward remove the old undertray completely along with rear subframe (single seat unit). The one I fitted to the K3 750 took ages to get right and involved cutting back the existing undertray and removing the bungee hook points with a hacksaw (which you'll no doubt need to do as well, if you don't want to start cutting the actual new undertray)
Its not difficult, just painstaking. One you've cut away the plastic part of the undertray that holds the rear lights it'll suddenly become self evident how it attaches. Offer it up underneath and you will see what parts of the old tray need cutting to fit. Don't forget that the new tray goes edge to edge under the seat plastics so any tatty cutting will be hidden anyway when it goes up flush. Wiring the indicators etc is straightforward, altho if they are LED micro's they'll flash too fast (see earlier post) The taillight will wire straight up to existing wiring (It should already have an in-line resistor with it)
Hope this makes it a little clearer mate |

ok - so what fixing kit do i need to buy - nuts and bolts or srews or a mix of the 2 ?? Can i use rivets ??
I checked the break LED there is no inline resistor - does it need one ??
the indicators are just your plain old bulbs..
I also took a close look at the undertray for some guide holes - there is one for the key lock and thats it .... |

| Some stainless allen bolts and nuts should sort you quite nicely. Resistors in the tail aint important cos' it don't flash, its either on or off (my 750 has LED's in the plate light with no resistors, works fine) |

give me till tomoz evening and will get some pics of mine its a piss easy job that I was flappin about every one said it was easy and it was!!!!.
it sounds identical to mine, you do not need to cut to much of the old tray but you will need two extra bolts nearer to the engine end of it as mine did not sit 100% and I was not happy with it. |

Hi skippy ... click on this topic for a little bit of help
[link]
the diagram showing which bolts to remove once fairing is off shows the standard undertray actually cut down to allow fitting of custom tray(mine had indicators fitted in it so had to cut away a little more of standard as shown in pic)
If you have the cargo hooks still on bike you'd have to do cut outs on custom to get it to fit .. otherwise you can just grind them off like most ppl do . And you don't need any fitting items ie bolts etc unless like jasonj says above you're not 100% happy with the security of it in place....the edges fit flush under the rear end panels and should utilise the 2 screws underneath to hold the rear end up as well as shown on my undertray pics.. .
The one thing you may have to remove and re-rivet is the tool kit holder !
If you have to drill holes for your indicators I'd advise to do it at the sides of where the tail-tidy mounts to tray.
*** if you do find you've cut off too much of the standard undertray ! I have a complete one off my old bike which I'm willing to cut out and post to you absolutely free of charge.as I can't see your custom one being much different to mine apart from the rear lights and no indicators ***
JASONJ .. ANY CHANCE OF A PIC OR 2 OF YOURS WITH THE REAR SEAT/HUMP OFF AS WELL TO SHOW THE CUT OUT INSIDE ??
Skippy .. does yours look anything like this one I've just snagged a pic off ebay as I don't have any except with shotgun/twin lights!! Or maybe you cud post up the ebay item number so we can see what it does look like please

well here's what i got - the indicators attach to the tail tidy so thats not to bad in that aspect, and i figurue the LED rear light has 2 small bolts that will fit flush to the undertray, just a smail hole needs drilling for the cables.[img]

right .. have got my old tail-end out of the shed ! . measured up and took some pix
so here goes ::: Inside measure back 31/2 inches from inner ridge as shown (bloody pix ended up at the bottom of the thread for some reason !! )
from underneath measure back 4 Inches(should meet the inner line when cutting ) a good indicator is where the tank prop rod hollow is shown underneath .. cut off where it angles
cut along and straight down the ridge outside. then you will have to trim off at an angle as shown
will look something close to this when in subframe.. note that it trims in slightly further up . that was where my indies jutted thru and i needed clearance .. You won't !!
And the offer is here for you .. If you want me to do the "daft graft" and chop my old standard one down and post to you I'll do it . you get to keep your standard one intact that way .. choice is yours

Ok Skippy .. all trimmed ready and packaged up with the diagrams from my old undertray .. should give you enuff info to do the rest of the job mate .. You don't need anymore fittings for it than whats already on the bike unless you want to add a cpl more bolts /self tapping screws near the front(engine end) to hold it more secure there .** YOU MAY HAVE TO SHAVE OFF A FEW MILLIMETRES AS I DID IT QUICKLY **
This is what you will receive.. 1 trimmed up standard undertray..(I've moved and re-riveted the tool kit holder) virtually ready to slot in once you remove your old one .. once it's in place you'll realise straightaway how the custom sits up against it before you replace your side panels back on etc etc .... Point to note .. You will probably have to splice the new indicator wires into the old ones or cut off old connector ends and replace with "bullet connectors" which I've put in with the tray .
Now all I need is your address !
