A little treat for you.
Dont ask how long ive been doing this project but other events have taken over my life recently. still in the next few months i hope to be back on track.or shell never get finished.
Basically it a yamaha 350 engine put into a modern alloy frame. sounds easy doesnt it.
The frame is a tzr125 from the mid 90s the swingarm is a tzr250 the tank tzr250, front end Ducati 916, rear wheel ducati monster 5.5 rim.
The frame needed some major work to fit the engine, all old engine brackets were cut off as were not needed, new ones made to get the engine back as far as possible so far back a hole was made into side of frame to pass the rear engine bolt through. next was the front cradle to support front of engine this is made in 3 sections. The cradle needed new mount points on the frame so these were made and welded on. The inside frame member was modded to allow the cylinder head not to touch. As the engine is slightly offset to allow the use of a large rear tyre. looks better than the offset sprockets used..
The tzr125 has a spindly rear swing arm so i decided to change it. after some thought i decided on a tzr250 3xv swingarm. this requires some mods to swingarm pivot. and new mounts for lower and upper shock mounts. again sounds easy but was alot of head scratching for sure.
The frame also has other mods like the hole for the choke lever to pass through as the carbs are completly hid behind the frame. a new area to mount the electrics was made which sits under the tank so keeping all the electrcal bits together. other mods include new mounts for rear sets. hollow tube through frame this is to mount a front stand so front end can be dropped out easy. the front end is a ducati 916. a bit heavy but was a good buy and loads of adjustment these forks are very under rated they are great..
so let see some pics
The frame showing mods
showing hole for choke lever and removable fairing mount
The front engine cradle and underneath stabiliser bar
rear engine mounts
The rear end showing 3xv swing arm with modded underslung caliper.
The first mock up
This is how it looks now.
seat unit has been replaced with a rs125 honda unit
things to do
replace swingarm with a later model one as seen here
I have pretty much everything i need to complete the project including carbon rear hugger, carbon front mudguard, Harris cbr900 rear sets. alloy clip ons, electronic speedo brakes ect
just need to strip to frame to paint black and start building her back together. Ther i hope you enjoyed them. as with all specials they are very time consuming but worth it. need to finish this ine as i have rg500 next on the list |
